The Purification and Properties of Glycolaldehyde Dehydrogenase

Evidence is presented that glycolaldehyde is a substrate for an aldehyde dehydrogenase present in pea seedling mitochondria. The enzyme has been partially purified and its properties are reported. The relevance of the reaction to the metabolism of the cell is discussed.
