A cDNA clone corresponding to a putative serine/threonine kinase
(cppk1) was isolated from the resurrection plant
Craterostigma plantagineum. The predicted amino acid
sequences exhibited high similarity to previously described protein kinases
in higher plants. Northern blot analysis showed that the corresponding gene
was expressed both in leaves and in callus tissue of
Craterostigma. When the tissues were desiccated the
amount of the transcript was heavily reduced in leaves whereas no effect
was found in callus. ABA treatment had no effect on the accumulation of the
transcript.Key words: Abscisic acid, desiccation tolerance, protein kinase,
resurrection plant.
