Mutations leading to sterility or lethality can only be preserved in the
heterozygotic state. Further use of such mutations requires considerable
time and work to separate heterozygous from homozygous wild-type plants.
This study shows that establishing balanced lines, by introducing visible
markers linked in trans to such mutations, circumvents these
disadvantages.Keywords:
