About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover illustration: Imaging the formation of reactive oxygen species by plants. The top picture illustrates superoxide formation at the tip of an Arabidopsis thaliana leaf exposed to high light intensity. Superoxide is visualized by formation of a purple/blue formazan precipitate resulting from nitroblue tetrazolium reduction (see Fryer et al., pp. 1249-1254.) The bottom picture shows that hydrogen peroxide-specific dye (dihydrofluorescein diacetate) and visualized by fluroescence microscopy. The green fluorescent image, indicating hydrogen peroxide, is overlaid on the corresponding bright-field image (MA Jones and N Smirnoff, unpublished results).
