About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover illustration: Photosynthesis and energy in storing cereal seeds. Oxygen is photosynthetically produced within the caryopsis (O2 gradient measured by microsensors: top inset). Oxygen production takes place in chlorophyll-containing cell layers within the pericarp (confocal laser-scanning microscopy: middle inset). The bioluminescence imaging shows ATP distribution within the caryopsis with gradients related to storage activity in the endosperm (bottom inset). (See Rolletschek et al., pp. 1351-1359.)
