About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover Illustration: A cork oak metallothionein (QsMT) has been associated with suberization, after identification of a gene actively transcribed in cork cells (back images) as a novel MT. QsMT transcription is also induced by oxidative stress in cork oak tissues and somatic embryos (right image, embryo submitted to oxidative stress; left image, without oxidative stress treatment). The function of QsMT may be related to its Cu-binding capacity, here analysed by mass spectrometry of the metal aggregates rendered by recombinant QsMT (bottom panel). (See Mir et al., 2483-2493.)
