About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover illustration: This SEM micrograph shows a false-coloured image of naturally occurring frost crystals on a grass leaf obtained in an early winter morning and preserved by plunge-freezing into liquid nitrogen before imaging with a Hitachi SEM equipped with a cryostage. The ice crystals shown are an illustration of the type of overnight subzero conditions that confers subzero-acclimation. Mr Eric Erbe obtained the image that was processed and coloured by Mr Christopher Poole using the facilities of the USDA Beltsville Electron Microscope Unit. (See Herman et al., pp. 3601–3618.)
