Cover illustration: A custom imaging system (top) that measures the spatial pattern of fluorescence from chlorophyll and green fluorescent protein (GFP). Arabidopsis thaliana was engineered to express GFP in proportion to Rubisco small subunit gene expression and then exposed to herbivory by first instar cabbage loopers (Trichoplusia ni). Four days later, false colour images of the operating quantum efficiency of photosystem II (ΦPSII; second from top) and expression of the Rubisco small subunit gene (third from top) were captured on an attached leaf. A thermal camera captured the spatial pattern of temperature across the leaf surface (bottom). Warm colours represent higher values, while cooler colours represent lower values.
