About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover illustration: SECRET AGENT (SEC) and SPINDLY (SPY) are the O-linked N-acetylglucosamine (O-GlcNAc) transferases of Arabidopsis thaliana that catalyse the post-translational modification of cytosolic and nuclear proteins with an O-linked β-D-GlcNAc monosaccharide. SEC and SPY have partially overlapping functions during reproductive development. The lower picture shows plants with the genotype sec-1/sec-1 SPY/spy-4 ga1/ga1. Development of these plants is essentially indistinguishable from the GA-deficient ga1/ga1 single mutant until flowering, when they develop a proliferation of pin-like structures. The top picture shows that SEC/sec-1 spy-4/spy-4 ga1/ga1 plants of a comparable age develop extra carpels. (See Hartweck et al., pp. 865–875.)
