About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover illustration: A leafy-like gene from the obligate long-day ornamental plant Silene coeli-rosa (ScLFY) cv. Godron is dramatically up-regulated in the apical meristem on evocation of flowering, but is barely detectable by real-time RT-PCR following non-inductive treatments. Expression in the evoked SAM is initially restricted to the peripheral zone, but later was detected by in situ hybridization throughout the SAM and in the tips of newly initiated sepal primordia. In vegetative SAMs there is very weak expression in the tips of the youngest primordia and in 3-4 cells of the tunica. (See Allnutt et al., pp. 2249–2259.)
